The United Methodist Church is a global Christian denomination rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and shaped by the Wesleyan tradition. Our beliefs center on God’s grace, the call to love our neighbors, and a faith that is lived out in both personal devotion and acts of compassion.
United Methodists emphasize grace—God’s unconditional love that goes before us, surrounds us, and transforms us. We talk about grace in three ways:
Prevenient Grace — God’s love at work in our lives before we’re even aware of it.
Justifying Grace — God’s forgiveness and reconciliation through Jesus Christ.
Sanctifying Grace — God’s ongoing work of shaping us into people who love like Jesus.
Grace is the heartbeat of our faith.
We believe the Bible is the primary source for Christian faith and practice. United Methodists read Scripture through the lenses of:
Tradition
Reason
Experience
This approach—called the Wesleyan Quadrilateral—helps us interpret Scripture faithfully and thoughtfully.
Jesus Christ is the center of our faith. We believe:
Jesus reveals God’s love for the world
Through his life, death, and resurrection, we are offered forgiveness and new life
Following Jesus means loving God and loving our neighbors in practical, everyday ways
The church is the Body of Christ—people gathered to worship, grow, and serve. United Methodists value:
Connectionalism — we are part of a worldwide family of churches
Community — faith is something we practice together
Mission — we exist to make a difference in the world
United Methodists recognize two sacraments:
Baptism — God’s gift of new life and our entry into the Christian community
Holy Communion — a meal of grace, remembrance, and spiritual nourishment
Everyone is welcome at Christ’s table.
Faith is not just what we believe—it’s how we live. United Methodists seek to grow in:
Personal holiness — prayer, worship, Scripture, and spiritual practices
Social holiness — justice, compassion, and service to others
We follow John Wesley’s “Three Simple Rules”:
Do no harm
Do good
Stay in love with God
Our mission is simple and bold:
“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
We live this out through ministries of mercy, justice, and love—locally and globally.
